Long before Pat was diagnosed with CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia), she was already a pro at dealing with many health issues. Although life was not always easy, it wasn’t always sad either. She had loved ones, fun, and a healthy belief in a better 'tomorrow;' a healthy belief in becoming a better Her.In her forties, antibiotic-resistant infections cropped up frequently. In 2001, a biopsy brought the diagnosis of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma/Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. It was an unusual diagnosis for someone in their forties, which made all the more painful since Pat’s mother, Iris, was at the end of her struggle with the same disease.So began a fourteen-year journey that involved four medical teams, many chemotherapy regimens, remissions, and relapses. Followed by a bone marrow transplant and finally admission into a research study for CLL at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland in January 2015.Through all this, Pat wrote, studied, and came to appreciate the mind/body/spirit connection and how that connection affects our time as patients. But most of all, Pat learned to embrace all that she was and would be.Now a seasoned and cancer free Best Patient Ever, Pat decided to share what she learned just like those she met along the way had shared with her. Those conversations with others and the ones she had in her head, (it’s very interesting up there) are compiled in this book. Cancer is only one of many illnesses our fellow patients must learn to live with and hopefully conquer. This book is dedicated to all patients and the adventures they are on.
